  • Nerve supply of pectoralis major:
    • Lateral and medial pectoral nerve
  • Contents of Delto-Pectoral groove:
    • Deltoid branch of acromio thoracic artery
    • Cephalic vein
  • Origin of median nerve:
    • Lateral chord and medial root
  • Origin of Deltoid Muscle:-
    • Anterior Border of Clavicle
    • Acromial process
    • Lower Border of Spinus process
  • Upper border of Spinous Process- Trapezius
  • Insertion of Deltoid Muscle:
    • Deltoid tubercle in shaft of humerus
  • Nerve supply of deltoid muscle- Axillary Nerve
  • Biceps brachii:-
    • Origin:-
      • Short head from Coracoid process
      • Long head from supraglenoid cavity
    • Insertion:-
      • Radial tuberosity
    • Nerve-
      • Brachial artery
    • Action:-
      • flexion
  • Action of Deltoid muscle:-
    • 15 to 90 Abduction
    • Extension
    • Clavicular fibres of deltoid cause extension
  • Coracobrachialis is pierced by:
    • Musculo cutaneous nerve
  • Nerve supply of serratus anterior:
    • Long thoracic nerve of bell, associated clinical case:
      • Winging of scapula
  • Nerve supply of trapezius:-
    • Spinal accessory nerve
  • Nerve supply of rhomboid major:-
    • Dorsal scapular nerve
  • Nerve present in suprascapular notch:-
    • Suprascapular nerve- supplies to:-
      • Suprasinatus – zero to 15deg abduction
      • Infraspinatus- lateral rotation
  • Axillary nerve winds around the surgical nerve of humerus. So to avoid it being damaged, intramuscular injection is given in the lower half of deltoid(actual practice- upper and outer deltoid quadrant)
  • Quadrangular space:-
    • Sup: Teres minor
    • Inf: teres major
    • Med: long head of triceps brachii
    • Laterall: surgical neck of humerus
    • Contents:-
      • Axillary nerve
      • Posterior circumflex humeral vesssels
  • Upper triangular space:-
    • Sup: inferior border of teres minor
    • Inf: superior border of teres major
    • Lat: medial border of long head of triceps
    • Contents:-
      • Circumflex scapular artery
  • Lower triangular space:-
    • Sup: lower border of teres major
    • Med: long head of triceps
    • Lateral: medial border of humerus
    • Content:-
      • Radial nerve
      • Profunda brachii vessels.
  • Triangle of Auscultation:-
    • Medial border:- lateral border of trapezius
    • Lateral border:- Medial border of scapula
    • Inferiorly: Upper border of latissimus dorsii
    • Floor:
      • 6th rib
      • 7th rib
      • 6th intercostal space
      • Rhomboid major
    • Respiratory sounds of lower lobe of lungs
  • Humerus:-
    • Trochlea- medial, pulley shaped surface articulating with the trochlear notch of ulna
    • Capitulum- lateral, rounded projection articulating with the head of humerus
    • Carrying Angle- The medial edge of the trochlea projects down 6 mm more than the lateral edge resulting in the formation of carrying angle.
  • Muscles of Coracoid Process:-
    • Superior: Pectoralis Minor
    • Tip:
      • Short head of biceps
      • Coracobrachialis
  • Muscles and their function:-
    • Flexion-
      • Clavicular fibres of Pectoralis Major
    • Extension-
      • Latissimus Dorsi
    • Adduction-
      • Sternocostal fibres of pectoralis major
      • Latissimus dorsi
    • Abduction-
      • Supraspinatus- 0 to 15
      • Deltoid- 15 to 90
    • Overhead abduction:-
      • Serratus Anterior
      • Trapeziod
    • Medial rotation-
      • Abdominal fibres of pectoralis major
      • Latissimus dorsi
    • Lateral Rotation:-
      • Infraspinatus
      • Teres major
    • Brachialis-
      • Only muscle originating from the shaft of the humerus
      • Inserts into the coranoid process of ulna
