It’s not currently known what the exact cause behind the outage is and the avid users, me included, can’t help but feel anxious.

After about an hour or so, when the issue appeared to be fixed, it wasn’t. People were having trouble logging in- not receiving the OTP. I was having the same issue.

Timeline

Reports of the outage started pouring in from these countries from around 7:45 pm IST or 3 pm GMT according to website Downdetector and peaking about 45 minutes later.

People’s Reaction

Expectedly annoyed and anxious. People went on to voice their pain on social media, which included several funny commentaries as well such as some speculating that telegram got infected by Omicron perhaps! Lol!

However, some were even speculating if this was in response to EU mulling over a complete ban on telegram which was only about two days ago. It won’t be the first time however as Russia tried to do this as well, although unsuccessfully.

What to do in case of outage?

Ideally, you should first try to stay calm. I say this because I wasn’t. Months and months of chat messages along with all the media files- GONE — that’s what a modern horror story looks like after all. So yes, if you wish to minimize the chances of losing access to your messages, just leave the app alone.

I would say keep taking screenshots but that would be extreme. Ideally your messages must be backed up already, so no don’t try to send any new messages as that might cause conflicts with your backups.

Don’t uninstall the app. Just let it be. Perhaps this was another sign that it’s time to take a break from your digital life after all.
